Please join the university in celebrating Chuckwuemelie Onwubuya’s acceptance into the Apple and Thurgood Marshall Pipeline Program.  This award was highly competitive and provides stellar opportunities for recipients, including a 25,000.00 tuition scholarship for the student’s senior year. 2016 Hall Johnson Summer Camp Brochure (1) The Allen University Music Department established the Hall Johnson Summer Camp (HJSC) for high school choral students in 2014. The Biology Department at Allen University enjoyed an accomplishment-filled summer! We’re very excited and proud of our Biology department. Take a look at some of the highlights.   Biology senior Megan Barnes completed an internship with the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Kawaguchi received the Expanding Audience grant to represent HBCU’s at the National Marine Educator’s Conference in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Frances Alston led a seminar on environmental science for students majoring in biology.   Dr. Kawaguchi and business major Danyelle Golden participated in a short study abroad program to Japan with 13 USC students.   Biology senior Ja’Pa Lockhart participated in the Environmental Science Summer Internship at the Savannah River Site.  ...

September 15, 2016 was Constitution Day! In commemoration of the day, the American Government Class devoted an entire class to recognizing its importance both in the present day, and past. In recent weeks, the pocket version of the Constitution has become the best-selling book on Amazon. The class learned that this occurred after Khizr Khan, the Muslin-American lawyer whose son was killed while serving in Iraq, pulled out a copy from his jacket pocket at the Democratic National Convention and offered to lend it to the Republican presidential candidate. Students heard the moving words of the father when he made the offer. The American Government class also learned about one of the Constitution’s strongest advocates. Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant who was orphaned at an early age, later wrote The Federalist as a collection of essays promoting the ratification of the Constitution. Incoming 2017-2018 wrestlers successfully completed the R. Allen University Announces “Days of Giving” Columbia, South Carolina – Allen University’s Division of Institutional Advancement will host its 1st Quarterly Days of Giving Challenge on Tuesday, August 1st – Thursday, August 3rd. The money raised will go towards the Allen University General Scholarship Fund to provide tuition assistance for students who qualify for need-based assistance. Nearly 96% of the university’s students receive some form of financial aid, many whom would not otherwise be able to afford a college education. “Every dollar raised during the three-day challenge will benefit an Allen University student and allow them the opportunity to attain their dream of a college education”, said Nimai Garrett, Director of Alumni Affairs. The staff will use social media, including Facebook, Twitter, email and other communication formats, to promote the three-day fundraising effort. Allen University is pleased to announce that Gauracandra Nimai Garrett, Director of Alumni Affairs/Webmaster, will be recognized by Columbia Business Monthly in their 2017 “Best & Brightest 35 and Under” awards.
