The University Choir will perform an array of pieces, representing all genres, featuring works by Jester Hairston, Harry Robert Wilson, Louis Lewandowski, and alumnus Hall Johnson, to name a few.
The University Choir is under the direction of Mr. Peter L. Felder II, an accomplished conductor and lyric tenor, and is accompanied by Mr. Aaron Matthews, a solo and orchestral pianist. The choir is comprised of over thirty voices.
The 2011 Spring Tour will be the first tour of the University Choir in several years. “The Chariot rolls again. We’re on our way,” commented director Peter L. Felder II. The Chariot was the common known reference of the University’s tour bus when the University Choir traveled many years ago. Allen University is credited for having an outstanding music program and producing some of the nation’s leading vocalists and conductors, including Lu Cile Ivey Norton (soprano), Vivian Taylor (dramatic soprano, performed with the Baltimore Symphony), James Edwards (baritone, starred as Porgy in the 50th anniversary celebration of Porgy and Bess and founder of The Choraliers, the longest running community choir in South Carolina), James Arthur Williams (conductor), and Lloyd Smith (baritone).
All performances are free and open to the public. For more information about the Allen University Choir Spring Tour, please call Mr. Peter L. Felder II at 803.347.5973.
