Early Alert Program
Early Alert Program- Designed to identify those students who are having academic or personal difficulties at any point in their academic career. By identifying these students, the Office of Academic Support and Retention can address their needs, thereby increasing the likelihood of their success. Faculty, through regular contact with students, are the first to see the results of these problems which manifest themselves through low test and quiz scores, failure to turn in assignments, poor class attendance and/or poor class participation. Regular attendance in class is a critical element for student success. Research has consistently documented the correlational between student attendance and student achievement. As such, Allen University will take an aggressive approach to insuring that students are attending courses regularly.
- Faculty members will document attendance each day in the Power Campus database.
- Conditionally admitted and probationary students must agree to adhere to a strict Attendance Policy.
- Students are not allowed to have more than three (3) unexcused absences during a course per semester.
- Students who accrue more than three (3) unexcused absences will be required to attend Evening or Weekend Study Hall sessions, where they will be responsible for completing a course-related project.
- By the beginning of the fourth week of the semester, faculty members are asked to identify students in their classes who may be in danger of failing as well as the reason for their concerns. Alerts may be issued for excessive absences, trouble with subject matter, not completing assignments, and writing deficiencies.
- FOR CONDITIONALLY ADMITTED STUDENTS – Faculty will receive a monthly progress report form that they are asked to submit as soon as possible.
- At the mid-point of the semester, students are required to meet with their Academic Advisor to discuss their grades. This meeting can serve as one of the required meetings for the year.
