The University confers the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science Degree in eight academic majors: Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, English, Mathematics, Music, Religion and Social Science. Degree requirements are based on a broad distribution of studies among the representative fields of human knowledge and concentrated studies within a major field.
GENERAL EDUCATION CORE STRUCTURE
The General Education Core is required of all students and is designed to introduce students to the broad areas of knowledge essential to a successful life and career. Included in the General Education Core are choices in the humanities, the social sciences, the laboratory sciences, and basic communications. Through this program, students begin to acquire an awareness of the diverse cultures of the past and present. They also develop communication, conceptualization, and analytical and critical thinking skills. These General Education courses provide the foundation for the student’s declared major.
General Education Core gives the students an opportunity to do the following:

Express themselves orally and in writing.

Analyze information critically and to think logically.

Develop an appreciation of literature, music, art, and other cultural enrichment activities.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the rules and laws of mathematics.

Develop competence to participate in a range of physical activities and recreation.

Demonstrate abilities to perform basic computer operations.

Apply knowledge of basic social science concepts and methods to analyze contemporary world events.

Develop an understanding of national and international problems and the ability for effective citizenship in the world community.
